Why the Queen of HEL is the best kiteboarding event in Poland ?
Second edition of the female kiteboarding festival behind us.
Once again Kasia Lange, Helena Brochocka and I teamed up to run the most exciting female kiteboarding event. This year the festival lasted four days at the end of June.We run it in the coolest kiteboarding club in Poland, Kite Crew at camping Chałupy 6. Girls who took part in the event were on different level of riding from beginners to competitors from the Polish championship. Participants could have tested the latest kiteboarding geat, learned about gossips in the kiteboarding industry as well as took part in contests and win cool prizes.
On the first day, the girls had a chance to learn about demo gear like the latest Karolina Pro board from Slingshot kiteboarding. This newest board was designed for my request to get the board that will perform in all kinds of conditions. I travel a lot and need a board that is suitable for different water surfaces. This board is not only great to ride on a butter flat lagoons but also in the choppy and wavy conditions. During the weekend there were also other parts of the gear like kites, harnesses and bars ready to be tested by the girls.
In the afternoon, the girls were invited to the opening of the festival and a concert of the band Bass Astral x Igo at the Karma restaurant at Chalupy 6. Participants not only were dancing, but also were meeting other girls who came to the festival.
Next day, there was little wind, so we started the day with morning activities and lectures, where girls could have learned new things about kiteboarding. Theory and practice of movements on the ground using a kite bar is always important when learning new tricks. Those who had just started their kite adventure had their first lessons with the instructor.
In the evening, we organized a kiteboarding quiz, which was designed to broaden participant’s knowledge about the sport. In the evening we showed the latest female kiteboarding movies to encourage girls to push their boundaries. Kasia, Helena and I we travel the world looking for the most suitable kiteboarding locations to practice the hardest freestyle tricks. For us it is very important to share our knowledge and experiences of travelling and kiteboarding to other female riders who are afraid to brake their limits.
On the third day we organised the Queen of Hel race. For us it is the most important part of the event, because we are competitors and want to show girls how much fun it is to compete. The girls were divided into three groups, where they advanced to the finals. Between the races you could enjoy a real surfing snack, Acaii Bowl, specially prepared by Acaii Mania. In the final, Alina Ungeheuer proved to be the fastest winning the title of the Queen of Hel 2017, a beautiful flower crown and brand new board sponsored by camping Chałupy 6. Because many competitors took part in the race, all the finalists were awarded with beautiful prizes from our sponsors.
At the end of a full day of excitement, they all met at the Karma restaurant at the Aloha Polish Hawaii. The girls were dressed in a variety of outfits, including hula dancers in grass dresses, exotic fruits, coconut shell, flower wreath, shells and other colourful Hawaii inspired outfits. Everyone was really creative but the winner of this contest was Katarzyna Domanska, dressed as a unicorn, who, like Polish Hawaii, is somewhere in her dreams, added Kasia. The prize was another kiteboard given for this event.
The last day of the festival started lazily, but there were girls ready to ride at 9:00 am. The wind was lighter but perfect for testing large kites, big surfboards and a hydrofoil. After the active morning, it was time to finish the event with the prize ceremony, where two other kite boards were drawn to the lucky winners.
We thank to all the girls who took part in the festival, and we look forward to see you next year for our third edition that will be held from 21-24 June 2018
See you there
